LOBI STARS AND RANGERS INTERNATIONAL QUALIFY

LOBI STARS THE REIGNING NIGERIA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS COMPLETE DOUBLE VICTORY FOR NIGERIA FOOTBALL AFTER BOOKING A PLACE IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE 2018/2019 CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BARELY TWO HOURS AFTER COMPATRIOTS RANGERS INT’L BOOKED A PLACE IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE 2018/2019 CAF CONFEDERATION CUP.

The Match which was played at the Nmandi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. Lobi Stars whom lose the first leg in Cameroon against UMS de Loum, Knowing that they need to cancel out the one goal deficit.They were quick and the better side by far and eventually cancelled it out in the first half.

The Nigeria Professional Football League Champions returned in the other 45 minutes to complete the tasks with another goal, that earned the Markudi-based side 2-1 Aggregate Victory.

Lobi Stars will now meet Kenya Gor Mahia in the first round with the first leg to be played in Nairobi, between December 14 to 16, while returning leg host in Nigeria a week later.

Winners of the first round will qualify for the group stage, while the losing side drop to the confederation cup and feature in the playoff, along with winners of first round of that second-tier CAF club competition.

While Rangers Int’l of Enugu also qualify for the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup, with an emphatic 3-1 win over Defence FC of Ethiopia in Addis Abba. The Flying  Antelopes thus progressed on 5-1 aggregate score having secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg played last week in Enugu.

Realizing that they needed a win to proceed, the home team mount pressure on Rangers Int’l in the second minute of the game and get a penalty which was converted by Minyelu Werdimu. With momentum on their side, they tried tirelessly but their effort was fruitless to score the second goal, instead it was Ibrahim Ajani who missed the chance to equalize for rangers in the 32nd minute.

Luck however went for the away team when they scored two goals under five minute. Serial super sub, Kevin Itoya grabbed the third goal for Rangers to take the game beyond the reach of the home team. Meanwhile, the Rangers contingent have since arrive at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
