HEARTLAND PLAYED A SECOND CONSECUTIVE DRAW AT HOME
HEARTLAND WERE HELD TO A DRAW FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT GAME AFTER GOMBE RESILIENCE LEAD TO THEIR PENALTY TO FORCE THE HOST TO SHARE THE SPOILS ON THURSDAY IN MATCHDAY 9 FIXTURE OF THE NIGERIA PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.
Heartland were first to open the score-sheet in the first half just has they had did against Ifeanyi Ubah FC through Chidiebere Ajoku, but were forced to a draw by the visitors after a foul in the last minutes on Joseph onoja by Micheal Uche from which Maurice Chigozie scored to secure a point for the visitors.
Both teams started the game with little changes in the starting rooster from subsequent fixtures. Heartland started with the same starting eleven that played against Ifeanyi Ubah FC except for chukwudi who replaced Maduabuchi Okereke. Gombe United made two changes, from the rooster that defeated Nasarawa United 5-2, Adewale Eyinka and Ibrahim Muhammad for Emmanuel Daniel and Muhammad Ali Manika.
Heartland started the game with more purposeful and desire than the visitors, the home team got an early attempt that lead to a goal in the 18th minute but was ruled out due to offside.
They eventually got the goal in the 32nd minute when Ajuka completed the attack he started. He collected the ball and played it forward for uche Oguchi in the wing and the defender whipped in an inch-perfect cross which was nodded pass the goalie for the opener. The game was 50/50 for both team thereafter till the end of half time.
Gombe United were quick at the start of the second half, they move the ball around fast and were on their way to snap away a goal. Their first half was without a single corner kick but they got their first inside three minutes of second half.
Heartland were at the back foot for the first ten minutes of the second half with a resolute and compact setup to deny the visitor in series of attempts. The Naze Millionaires also got some fine chances which were squandered.
The visitors eventually put a goal in the net in the 87th minute, after a rash tackle in the eighteen yard box, leading to the referee awarding a penalty to the visitors, for their goal to savage a point away for the visitors.
